Following a highly successful amateur career Northern Irish sensation Rory McIlroy turned pro in 2007 and swiftly established himself as a leading contender on the European Tour. After winning his first tournament back in 2009, McIlroy has since won his first major, claiming the 2011 U.S. Open with a record score of 16-under-par, becoming the youngest winner of the event since 1923.
