THE COURSE:
Augusta National Golf Club 7,435 yrds Par 72
Location: Augusta National Golf Club, Washington Road, Augusta, Georgia.
The Masters is the only golfing Major that is staged on the same course each year and the tournament dates back to 1934 when Horton Smith was crowned the inaugural champion. Construction of the course began in 1931 under the watchful eye of British course designer Dr. Alister Mackenzie and with the help of legendary amateur golfer Bobby Jones.
In recent years the course has been significantly lengthened to combat the advances in technology that allow the ball to travel far greater distances. This coupled with some of the quickest and most undulating greens played on tour, makes Augusta a formidable challenge.
ADAM SCOTT 2013 MASTERS CHAMPION.
A birdie on the second playoff hole against Angel Cabrera sealed a dramatic first Major win for Adam Scott. His victory at Augusta was the first by an Australian and after being presented the Green Jacket the 2013 Masters Champion paid tribute to friend Greg Norman:
"There was one guy who inspired a nation of golfers and that's Greg Norman. He's been incredible to me and part of this definitely belongs to him. A phone conversation's not going to do it, we're very close. I would love to share a beer with him and talk through it all."
